EMV Chip Cards

EMV Chip Cards are coming your way!

We will be featuring the new EMV chip card technology on our Mastercard® debit cards. These new EMV chip cards wil lbe replacing your old debit card and are scheduled to be issued during the month of May. Our EMV chip-enabled credit cards are scheduled for a later date.

EMV chip cards are named after its original developers, Europay, Mastercard®, and Visa®. The new EMV chip cards exchange a unique authentication code with chip-enabled terminals which provides enhanced security features. EMV chip-enabled cards are harder to duplicate, which helps pervent card cloning. EMV chip cards use data authentication, which validates the cards to ensure the card is genuine evert time it is used.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

Once you receive your card, you must activate it right away from your PRIMARY phone number. Once you activate your new chip card, your current card will be inactive.

Please verify your information before activating your debit card by:
  • • Visit our online banking to update your PRIMARY phone number by logging into our online banking, hovering over "Info Center" and then clicking "Personal Information"
  • • E-mail our customer service at memberservice@lhcu.org
  • • Call us at 989-752-5214
Your new chip-enabled card will have the same account number as your current debit card although the expiration date will change. If you utilize your debit card for reoccurring payment(s), it is important that you notify your vendor(s) as the expiration will not be different which may not allow the charge(s) to be processed.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

Some retailers may not have EMV chip enabled terminals. The retailers that do not have chip-enabled terminals, swipe your card's magnetic stripe just like you have with your old card. There are no changes to do phone or online purchases. Simply complete your transaction as you would today.

HOW TO USE A CHIP CARD:

  • INSERT CHIP CARD.

    Place chip end of card face up into the terminal at your specific merchant.

  • FOLLOW THE PROMPTS.

    Provide your signature, if requested. Your PIN will not normally be required, except at ATMs.

  • REMOVE YOUR CARD.

    Take card out of the terminal when prompted, or after the transaction is complete.

Once you place the card in the terminal, please wait for the transaction to be completed. Do NOT immediately take the card out of the machine. Please follow the above instructions carefully.
